Taking payments

Taking payments

You can let your students pay with their credit cards for your classes, passes & subscriptions. Ubindi partners with a well-established and trustworthy platform called Stripe.

What is Stripe?

Stripe is a trusted payment processor that makes online payments very easy. Using Stripe to take payments is like using Paypal, where you need to have your own account .

In order to take payments on Ubindi you need to create your own account on Stripe. It's quick, free and extremely secure. If you already have an existing Stripe account, even better! You don't need to create a second one, just use the one you have already.

When you create your account, Stripe will ask you to connect a bank account so you can get paid out. Your Stripe account is separate from Ubindi, but both will be connected. When you get a purchase on Ubindi, the money you earn will flow directly into your own bank account.

Once you connect to Stripe, you can start accepting payments right away!

Students who pay for your classes don't need to create an account on Stripe. They just pay with their credit card like on any other website. It's all totally safe and secure.

How much does it cost?

With your Stripe account, you’ll be charged the usual credit card processing fees for any transactions. If you’re in the USA, it’s 2.9% + 30¢. In other countries it may be different, you can look up rates for your country here.

Ubindi also collects small platform fees for all payments you receive:

If you’re using a free account, this fee is 5%. For pro accounts, it’s 2%.

How does it work with refunds and cancellations?

You’re in charge! Since the money from payments goes directly to your own account, you’re the one to set your cancellation policy or issue refunds, as you see fit.

How do I enable payments?

On your schedule dashboard (where you create your classes), in the sidebar, you'll see a button that says enable payments:

This will take you to Stripe to a page that looks like this:

There, you can create your account, or connect an existing account. If you don't have a Stripe account yet, you'll need to create one. You'll need to fill out a form about your business, and enter your bank information so that you can get your money. It's all very secure and takes a few minutes.

Here's a help page from Stripe that takes you through the steps of creating your account:

Once you've connected payments, you'll want to learn about setting up payment for each of your classes. Ubindi also lets you offer passes, and subscriptions, and take payments by donations. You've got lots of options!

What if I don’t enable online payments?

No problem, Ubindi works just fine even when you’re paid in cash or offline in some other way. Your revenue & expenses are tracked for you when you take attendance, so enabling payments is totally optional.

It says Stripe isn’t available in my country....

We’re sorry but that means you won’t be able to accept credit card payments on Ubindi. But Stripe is expanding all the time and will most likely be available in your country soon!
